How I help.

  • As an animation sound designer, I love starting from silence. Every sound is a creative decision - from a crisp whoosh to a carefully layered background. Great audio post-production doesn’t just clean things up; it gives your project clarity, rhythm, and emotional shape.`

In children’s animation, sound plays a huge role in how young audiences engage. Whether it’s the bounce of a character landing or the gentle flow of ambient audio beneath a quiet moment, every sonic choice helps them follow, feel, and stay with the story.

I’ve led sound design and post-production on globally recognised kids’ series like Teletubbies and Caillou, delivering professional mixes for YouTube, streaming platforms, and broadcast - reaching millions of young viewers worldwide.

    Animation audio services include:

    • Custom sound effects and foley crafted for tone, timing, and visual style

    • Dialogue editing, sound effects, and music balancing for final mix delivery

    • Broadcast and digital-ready audio post-production across formats

    • Voiceover editing and dubbing for episodic, short-form, and YouTube-first animation

    • Support for children’s media compliance and adaptive workflows for evolving edits

Looking for sound that meets tight deadlines without losing emotional depth? Let’s talk.

  • Even the best sound design can fall flat without a solid mix. When dialogue is buried under music or the tone feels off, audio post-production brings everything together. It’s more than the ‘final polish’ - it’s what gives your project clarity, cohesion, and emotional tone from start to finish.

I work with creative teams across animation, games, film, branded content, and documentary to mix, clean, and finalise audio. Whether you're delivering to YouTube, festivals, broadcast, or OTT platforms, I ensure your sound is clear, balanced, and ready to perform.

    Audio post-production services include:

    • Audio mixing across dialogue, sound effects (SFX), and music

    • Balancing tone and clarity for emotional impact

    • Noise reduction, EQ, and dialogue editing for a clean, professional sound

    • Platform-ready delivery for streaming, YouTube, broadcast, and game engines

    • Flexible workflows across departments, file types, and delivery specs

  • When the voice isn’t quite right, the whole scene feels off - even if the visuals are great. Maybe it’s the timing, the tone, or something that just doesn’t sit. Whether it’s animation, a branded spot, or a localisation, voiceover should feel like part of the world - not something awkwardly layered on top.

I specialise in voiceover post-production, dialogue editing, ADR, and multilingual voiceover and dubbing for animation, games, and digital content. I shape performances through voice direction that syncs naturally with picture and pacing, clean up dialogue for warmth and clarity, and manage localisation-ready dubbing workflows that keep everything running smoothly - in any language or format.

    Voiceover and dubbing services include:

    • Voiceover editing and tonal shaping for natural delivery

    • ADR syncing and lip-match to picture

    • Multilingual dubbing and international voiceover direction

    • Dialogue editing and clean-up for clarity and emotional impact

    • Remote voiceover services across formats and pipelines

  • In games, audio isn’t just there to sound cool - it drives immersion, signals player feedback, and makes every interaction feel alive. There’s a reason we still remember the sound of opening a chest, jumping between levels, or hearing a victory jingle from the games we loved growing up. Great game sound design sticks - not just because it sounds good, but because it’s emotionally wired into the experience.

But when sound is treated like an afterthought, it can fall out of sync with the player’s actions and mood. Interactive audio design means responding to movement, momentum, and the emotional arc of the moment - in real time.

I work with indie developers and creative teams to design adaptive audio systems using FMOD, Wwise, and in-engine tools like Unity and Unreal. From custom sound effects and UI audio to environmental design and technical implementation, I help shape sound that’s intuitive, responsive, and emotionally tuned to gameplay.

    Game audio services include:

    • Game sound effects for UI, feedback, and real-time gameplay

    • Adaptive audio systems built in FMOD or Wwise

    • Environmental sound design and layered ambience

    • Game audio integration support for Unity or Unreal Engine

    • Cross-team collaboration with developers, artists, and narrative leads

Curious how adaptive game audio feels in action? Watch the interactive audio showreel for examples in FMOD, Wwise, and responsive UI design.

  • Sometimes you don’t need a full-time sound designer - you need someone who can drop in, solve a problem, and move things forward.

I offer short-term, high-level consulting for teams working across animation, games, and branded content, with a focus on audio workflow, dubbing pipelines, and adaptive sound implementation.

Whether it’s streamlining a localisation process, designing a scalable post-production workflow, or helping teams bridge the gap between creative intent and technical execution, I bring a clear, collaborative approach tailored to your production needs.

Consulting services are available globally, delivered remotely or in person in London or Manchester. As a multilingual sound designer, I offer support in English, Italian, or Spanish - working with teams across the UK, Europe, North America and beyond.

I'm also available for guest workshops, creative course sessions, and industry panels, sharing insight into real-world projects and best practices in dubbing, foley, composition, and mixing for animation and children’s media.

    Consulting services include:

    • Audio workflow and pipeline consulting for post-production, voiceover, and dubbing

    • Adaptive audio strategy, FMOD/Wwise planning, and game audio integration

    • Technical implementation support and troubleshooting for asset pipelines

    • Localisation and voiceover direction, including multilingual dubbing for animation and games

    • Sound design consulting for directors, producers, and creative teams

Ciao, I’m Nico.

Portrait of sound designer Nico Itro, arms crossed, standing against a brick wall in black and white. UK-based freelance audio post-production expert for animation, games, and film.

I’m a UK-based freelance sound designer and lifelong audio nerd, working remotely from the UK with creative teams around the world. I started Sounds Like Nitro to bring more clarity, depth, and humanity to how stories sound - whether it’s a jump cut, a footstep, or a line of dialogue that doesn’t just fill space, but carries meaning.

I grew up in Italy in the 80s and 90s, glued to dubbed cartoons at their peak - expertly voiced and full of feeling. Even then, I listened for rhythm, tone, and emotional timing - the things that make sound land and stories hold.

When I’m not shaping sound, I’m refurbing guitars I probably don’t need, hanging out with my two chaotic dogs, or rewinding old cartoon scenes just to hear the reverb tail again.

How I work.

You don’t need to know the ins and outs of post-production to feel when something works. This is the framework I bring to help get us there - no matter the scale or style.

  • Post-production is never just one person’s job - and great sound depends on how well we connect across roles. I understand enough of each part to collaborate smoothly, spot the overlaps, and turn scattered elements into a single, cohesive audio experience.

  • Monsters, gadgets, nonsense creatures, impossible stunts - if it doesn’t exist, I probably want to design it. I love the creative puzzle of translating someone else’s vision into audio that makes them say “yes, that’s it.”

  • I rarely repeat the same setup twice. I build in layers, try new tools, and evolve my approach with every brief. That way, your project doesn’t just sound good - it sounds like nothing else.

  • Sound can feel mysterious if it’s not your world. I don’t expect you to speak in audio jargon - I translate, explain, offer options, and bring people into the process. Clients often leave knowing more than they arrived with (and secretly enjoying it).

  • Working with other creatives is one of the best parts of this job. I listen before I design, align with your vision, and offer multiple takes if needed. There’s no single “right” answer in audio - just what fits, and what feels true to the moment.
